No. 5 Georgetown nips UD mens lacrosse 10:30 a.m., March 17, 2005--The University of Delaware mens lacrosse team nearly scored a major upset over No. 5-ranked Georgetown University, jumping out to a four-goal lead in the first half but eventually falling 9-8 in a game played Wednesday night at Rullo Stadium. The Fightin Blue Hens, who led 6-2 midway through the second quarter, fell to 4-3 on the season. UD will return to action with a game against Manhattan University at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 19, at Rullo Stadium. Senior Dave Powers led the Hens with three goals, while Dan Deckelbaum had two goals and an assist, Cam Howard had two assists and Jordan Hall had one goal and one assist. The Hens also got an outstanding effort in goal from Chris Collins who had 13 saves. Georgetown is a strong program that has advanced to the NCAA Division I championship tournament quarterfinals each of the last three years and was coming off a 10-7 upset win over perennial powerhouse Syracuse University in a game played on Saturday in Los Angeles.
