Delaware men’s lacrosse defeats Albany 18-9

9:56 a.m., March 14, 2005--Senior midfielders Joe Trentzsch and Dave Powers scored five goals each as the University of Delaware men's lacrosse team defeated the University of Albany 18-9 on Saturday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens improved to 4-2 while Albany, which won the America East Conference championship and participated in the NCAA Division I tournament each of the last two seasons, fell to 1-1.

UD will remain at Rullo Stadium for a pair of games this week, hosting Georgetown University at 7 p.m., Wednesday, and Manhattan University at 2 p.m., Saturday.

Georgetown (2-1) is coming off a 10-7 victory over perennial powerhouse Syracuse University in a game played at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, and is a consensus top 10 selection in the national polls. Manhattan (1-3) is coming off a 13-12 loss to Sacred Heart University.

In Saturday’s win over Albany, UD sophomore attackman Cam Howard had one goal and five assists and sophomore midfielder Jordan Hall had two goals and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Dan Deckelbaum scored twice and had an assist and sophomore Bobby West scored a goal and had two assists. Alex Smith won 22 of 25 face-off attempts for the Hens.
