Delaware men’s lacrosse defeats Mount St. Mary’s

UD’s Jordan Hall scored four goals in the victory over Mount St. Mary’s.
9:28 a.m., March 10, 2005--Sophomore midfielder Jordan Hall scored a career-high four goals as the University of Delaware men’s lacrosse team defeated Mount St. Mary's University 15-7 in a game played Wednesday afternoon at Boy's Latin High School in Baltimore.

With the win, UD snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 3-2 on the season. The victory was the 400th in the history of Fightin’ Blue Hens men’s lacrosse, which is in its 58th season.

Hall had two assists in addition to his four goals. Senior attackman Andy Hipple had three goals and an assist, and sophomore midfielder Dan Deckelbaum, freshman attackman Vincent Giordano and senior midfielder Dave Powers had two goals each. Sophomore attackman Cam Howard had five assists.

Senior midfielder Joe Trentzsch also added a goal, marking the eighth straight game in which he has scored dating back to last season. Sophomore midfielder Alex Smith won 18 of 26 face-offs.

Mount St. Mary's opened the scoring just 55 seconds into the game, but Hipple tied the game with a goal 43 seconds later. The Hens went on to score three more goals before the end of the first quarter to establish a lead they never gave up.

UD is scheduled to return to action with a game against the University of Albany (N.Y.) at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 12, in Rullo Stadium. Albany is 1-0 on the season following a 10-8 victory over Providence College and, like UD, received votes in the initial U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll released Monday.

Albany sophomore attackman Merrick Thomson scored four goals against Providence and is the reigning America East Conference Player of the Week. Head Coach Scott Marr is a former assistant coach at UD.
