UD men’s lacrosse falls to No. 12-ranked Rutgers

2:18 p.m., March 7, 2005--Scoring two goals in the final two minutes, Rutgers University defeated the University of Delaware 8-7 in a hard-fought men’s lacrosse game played Saturday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.

With the loss to Rutgers, which advanced to the NCAA championship tournament last year and is ranked No. 12 in the preseason Inside Lacrosse poll, the Fightin’ Blue Hens fell to 2-2.

UD will try to break a two-game losing streak when the Hens travel to Mount St. Mary’s University for a game Tuesday afternoon in Emmitsburg, Md.

In Saturday’s loss, UD senior midfielder Joe Trentzsch scored two goals and has now scored in seven straight games dating back to last season. Sophomore attackman Cam Howard had one goal and three assists, sophomore midfielder Jordan Hall had one goal and two assists and senior attackman Andy Hipple had one goal and one assist.

UD overcame a 6-3 deficit late in the third quarter by scoring four straight goals, the last by freshman Vincent Giordano, to take a 7-6 lead with just under four minutes left to play. Rutgers rallied late to earn the win.
