UD mens basketball assistant Martin resigns 5:48 p.m., May 25, 2005--University of Delaware men's basketball assistant coach Billy Martin has announced his resignation, effective June 15, to take the head coaching position at Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, N.C. Martin has been an assistant for the last five seasons under UD Head Coach David Henderson, helping lead the Fightin Blue Hens to a 76-72 record. A 1978 graduate of the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Martin coached 17 seasons at his high school alma mater, East Montgomery High School in Biscoe, N.C., before coming to UD. Martin, 48, also will teach health at Reynolds High, which has won more than 330 games and three North Carolina 4-A championships in the last 17 years. "It was a very tough decision," Martin said. "I was in a good situation here at Delaware, but when the opportunity arose in North Carolina, I felt that taking the position was the best move for me and my family at this time."
