UD women’s lacrosse No. 17 in national poll

5:34 p.m., April 19, 2005--The University of Delaware women’s lacrosse team has climbed back into the national rankings at No. 17 in the most recent Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association poll.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens are one of four Colonial Athletic Association teams in the top 20, with Hofstra University the highest ranked conference team at No. 12. Towson University is ranked No. 16 and the College of William and Mary, which UD upset 13-8 on Sunday, is ranked No. 20.

A fifth CAA team, George Mason University, received votes but did not crack the top 20.

Northwestern University is ranked No. 1, and is followed in the top five by Duke University, Princeton University, Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia.

The UD men’s lacrosse team received votes in the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll but remained outside the top 20. Towson University, which the Hens defeated 11-5 earlier this season, is ranked No. 14 and Hofstra University is ranked No. 17.

Johns Hopkins University is ranked No. 1, and is followed in the top five by Duke University, Georgetown University, the University of Virginia and the U.S. Naval Academy. The Hens fell to Georgetown 9-8 earlier this season, letting a four-goal first half lead slip away.
