3 UD lacrosse players named All-Americans

Chris Collins
9:20 a.m., June 1, 2005--Three University of Delaware men’s lacrosse players have been named honorable mention All-Americans by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA). Recognized were sophomore midfielders Jordan Hall and Alex Smith and senior goalkeeper Chris Collins.

The three Fightin’ Blue Hens were among 78 players honored by the USILA, with selections made by a committee of head coaches. They helped lead UD to one of its finest seasons by posting an 11-6 record, winning the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title and earning a berth in the NCAA Division I championship tournament.

Jordan Hall
Hall was the CAA Player of the Year and was selected to the CAA All-Tournament team. He scored 29 goals, including a career-high five against St. John’s University, and had 18 assists.

Smith is a dominant face-off specialist and led the nation with a winning percentage of 70.9 percent. He was the 2004 CAA Rookie of the Year and this season earned first team All-CAA honors. He won a UD record 251 face-offs in 354 attempts, led the CAA with 132 ground balls and added three goals and one assist.

Alex Smith
Collins is the first UD goalkeeper to earn All-American honors since Jim Pappas in 1962. Collins was named second team All-CAA each of the last two seasons and in 2005 had a UD record 7.56 goals against average and a .584 save percentage. He ranks No. 4 all-time at UD with 554 saves.
