UD’s Katie Evans nets 2 in Junior World Cup

9 a.m., Sept. 21, 2005--University of Delaware junior Katie Evans scored two goals as the USA field hockey under-21 team defeated Zimbabwe 14-0 on Saturday in the final game of initial pool play at the Women's Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile.

The USA team defeated England 4-2, came from behind to tie top-seeded Netherlands 2-2 and defeated Zimbabwe in the opening round of play.

Now in the second phase of competition, the USA defeated Chile 3-1 and fell to Australia 1-0. With a victory against Spain today, the national team still could advance to the tournament semifinals.

Evans had one goal and five assists for the Fightin’ Blue Hens before joining the national team for the Junior World Cup.
