UD’s McLister captures Rutgers championship

Joe McLister
12:12 p.m., Sept. 19, 2005--University of Delaware junior Joe McLister fired a two under par 69 for a three-round total of 208 to capture the individual title at the Rutgers University Golf Invitational on Saturday.

McLister helped lead the Fightin’ Blue Hens to a fifth-place team finish in the 13-team field. The Hens will return to action Sept. 24-25 at the Elon Invitational at Sea Trail Golf Resort in Sunset Beach, N.C.

McLister shot a 72 in the first round and a career-best 67 in the second round, the second lowest score in UD history and the best by a Hen since 1987. He finished two strokes better than Chris Condello of Columbia University and Seth Hirschhorn of Rutgers.

McLister’s consecutive round score of 136 set a school record, bettering the mark of 137 set by Jim Kania in 1982.

Columbia took the team title with a score of 852, four strokes better than runner-up St. John’s University.

UD’s Josh Williamosky finished 20th, freshman Jeff Griest 34th, Tyler Kupper 52nd and B.J. Jaworski 55th.
