Spiker leads UD golfers to 9th-place finish

8:59 a.m., April 5, 2005--Senior Dan Spiker led the University of Delaware golf team to a ninth-place finish at the Drew Upton Memorial Golf Classic, hosted by Towson University at the Great Hope Golf Club.

The top scorer in the event for the Fightin’ Blue Hens, Spiker shot 76-76 to finish in 19th place and earn his second straight top 20 finish.

Overall, the Hens shot 622 and finished just one stroke behind the U.S. Military Academy in eighth place and four behind George Mason University in seventh place.

Loyola captured the team title with a 36-hole score of 595, seven strokes better than host and runner-up Towson.

Also for UD, Joe McLister finished 36th with a score of 155, Steve Banks finished 41st with a 156, Tyler Kupper finished 63rd with a 161 and J.J. Oakley finished 79th with a 165.

The Hens will compete at the Lafayette Invitational April 8-9 at Center Valley (Pa.) Golf Club in their final event before the Colonial Athletic Association championships, to be held April 15-17 at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.
