McLister, Blue Hens win Goldey-Beacom golf title

UD’s Joe McLister
9:04 a.m., March 23, 2005--Led by individual medalist Joe McLister, the University of Delaware Blue team shot 306 to win the Goldey-Beacom College Invitational on Monday afternoon at Hartefeld National Golf Club near Avondale, Pa.

Host Goldey-Beacom shot 310 to finish second, while the UD Gold team shot 312 to finish third.

McLister, a sophomore, shot a three under par 69 over the 6,470-yard course to lead a split UD squad to the team title in the eight-team field.

For the Fightin’ Blue Hens, it was the first tournament team title since the Army Invitational in October 2002, and McLister was the first UD competitor to win an individual tournament championship since Terry Maguire won the Scotty Duncan Memorial in April 2000.

Five UD golfers finished in the top 10. Tyler Kupper of UD Gold finished third, B.J. Jaworski of UD Gold tied for fourth, and J.J. Oakley and Britt Murdoch, both of UD Blue, tied for eighth.

UD will return to action April 2-3 at the Towson Invitational to be played at Great Hope Country Club in Westover, Md.
