UD hockey star Geib Academic All-American

Leah Geib
10:37 a.m., June 20, 2005--University of Delaware field hockey All-American Leah Geib has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American second team.

Geib, the recipient of a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship who earlier had been named to the CoSIDA District 2 All-Academic team, was one of 45 female scholar-athletes from NCAA Division I institutions to be named to the All-American teams.

She is the fourth UD scholar-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors during the 2004-05 academic year, joining football players Ben Cross and Chris Mooney and men's soccer player Matt Haney.

Geib, who helped lead the Fightin’ Blue Hens to the 2004 Colonial Athletic Association championship and a berth in the NCAA Division I tournament, received a bachelor’s degree in communication from UD in May and achieved an outstanding grade point average of 3.92. She plans to continue her graduate studies at UD.

A two-time College Sports Information Directors of America District 2 All-Academic selection, Geib was a four-year starter for the nationally ranked UD field hockey team under Head Coach Carol Miller. She was a co-captain on the 2004 team.

Geib earned all-conference honors all four years of her career, was a three-time all-region selection and earned second team National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-American honors in 2004. She was named the CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for field hockey twice and also was a member of the NFHCA National Academic team and CAA Academic Honor Roll.

Geib also was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and the UD Student-Athlete Advisory Council, served as tutor and peer mentor at UD, served on the UD Athletics Governing Board and the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, and was active with Homeward Bound Inc., Champions for Charity, Ronald McDonald House and other charitable organizations.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America teams are sponsored by ESPN The Magazine.
