National baseball writers cite UD pitcher Gaphardt

9:06 a.m., April 5, 2005--The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has named University of Delaware pitcher Brent Gaphardt the National Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 29.

Gaphardt was recognized after throwing a no-hitter in the second game of a doubleheader against Hofstra University on March 26. The left-hander struck out the side three times in the seven-inning contest and had a total of 13 strikeouts in the game.

With the honor, Gaphardt was automatically named to the watch list for the Roger Clemens Award that is given to the national collegiate pitcher of the year by the Greater Houston Baseball Organization.
