UD violinist Xiang Gao to perform in Estonia

4:25 p.m., June 15, 2005--World-renowned violinist Xiang Gao, associate professor of music at UD, will perform with the University’s Ceruti violin with the Estonian National Symphony in Tallinn, Estonia, Friday, June 17, at the Edward Tubin International Music Festival.

The only American violinist invited to take part in the festival, Gao will perform the violin concerto  in D major by Tubin, under the direction of the orchestra’s principal conductor, Nikolai Aleksejev, who also is associate conductor of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic in Russia.

Other artists and ensembles performing at the festival include Estonian-American conductor Paavo Jarvi, music director of the Cincinnati Symphony, the Helsinki Philharmonic, Stockholm Philharmonic and American pianist Per Tengstrand.

Gao came to UD in 2001 and became a founding member and the artistic director of the acclaimed University of Delaware "Master Players Chamber Series."
