Katie Evans
2:46 p.m., Oct. 3, 2005--The University of Delaware field hockey team split its weekend Colonial Athletic Association games, topping Virginia Commonwealth University 2-1 in overtime on Friday in Richmond then falling 5-1 to Northeastern University at Rullo Stadium.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens are 6-6 overall, 1-2 in conference. They will return to action with games at the College of William and Mary at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7, and at Old Dominion University at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9.

In the victory over Virginia Commonwealth, UD’s winning goal was scored by junior Katie Evans, who returned to action with the Hens following a stint with the national team at the Junior World Cup in Chile. Evans scored on a penalty stroke with 3:54 left in the overtime period for the win.

Earlier in the game, Molly Burke scored for the Hens with assists by Amber Deimler and Stephanie Swain. UD goalkeeper Megan Allen had six saves.

Evans scored the first goal of the game in the loss to Northeastern, giving the Hens a 1-0 lead. However, the No. 12-ranked Huskies stormed back for the victory. Allen had 10 saves.
