Delaware field hockey team falls to Hofstra

10:01 a.m., Sept. 26, 2005--The University of Delaware field hockey team lost a hard-fought Colonial Athletic Association game 2-1 at Hofstra University on Sunday afternoon, with the game decided in three rounds of penalty strokes after two overtime periods.

Hofstra junior midfielder Doni-Melissa Jantzen scored the game-winning goal in penalty strokes.

The game was 1-1 through regulation and two overtimes periods, with goals by Hofstra’s Pemba Ramdoo and UD’s Casey Howard, who found the net with just 2:31 remaining on a pass from Carly Campana.

UD goalkeeper Megan Allen made two of her 10 saves in the second half to keep the score tied and send the game into overtime.

With the loss, the Fightin’ Blue Hens fell to 5-5 overall and 0-1 in the CAA. The Hens also fell 1-0 to Temple University on Friday, with Allen making a career-high 14 saves.

Hofstra improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

The Hens will play a pair of CAA games this weekend, traveling to Virginia Commonwealth University for a game at 7 p.m., Friday, and returning home to Rullo Stadium to face Northeastern University at 1 p.m., Sunday.
