Delaware field hockey rebounds with victory

12:28 p.m., Sept. 19, 2005--Bouncing back from a loss to St. Joseph’s University on Friday, the 19th-ranked University of Delaware field hockey team defeated Lafayette College 5-1 on Sunday afternoon in Easton, Pa.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens fell 2-1 to St. Joseph’s on Friday night in Philadelphia, with the lone UD goal scored by Lindsey Piester on a penalty shot.

UD got two goals from Amanda Warrington in the victory over Easton. Warrington opened the scoring on an assist from sophomore Molly Burke just 2:52 into the game.

The Hens extended the lead to 4-0 on goals by freshman Nikki Hinsley, assisted by Erin Marihugh, senior Amber Deimler, assisted by Kaili Kao and freshman Casey Howard.

Warrington capped the UD effort with her second goal of the game with just 46 seconds left in the first half off an assist by Howard.

UD starting goalkeeper Megan Allen had two saves, and Nikki Rhodes made her first appearance of the season in net for the Hens, playing the final 10 minutes.

The 5-3 Hens will next travel to Temple University for a game at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23, and to Hofstra University for a Colonial Athletic Association contest at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25.
