Delaware field hockey team ranked in top 20 3:35 p.m., Sept. 13, 2005--The 4-2 University of Delaware field hockey team is ranked No. 19 in the first National Field Hockey Coaches Association NCAA Division I poll released Tuesday. Wake Forest University is the top-ranked team, followed in the top five by the University of Maryland, the University of North Carolina, Duke University and American University. Duke, which received one first-place vote, defeated UD in the recent Blue Hen Classic tournament. The Fightin Blue Hens have defeated three teams that received votes outside the top 20--the University of California at Berkeley, which received 16 votes, Stanford University, which received five votes, and Rutgers University, which received two votes. UD was one of five Colonial Athletic Association teams included in the top 20, with Old Dominion University ranked No. 9, Northeastern University No. 13, James Madison University No. 15 and the College of William & Mary No. 18.
