Blue Hen field hockey defeats Rutgers 4-1

11:19 a.m., Sept. 12, 2005--The University of Delaware field hockey team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over Rutgers University on Friday night at Rullo Stadium.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens were led by junior All-American Amanda Warrington, who scored three goals, and Katie Evans, who had three assists.

UD scored first on a goal by Molly Burke off a penalty corner just 1:13 into the contest. She was assisted by both Warrington and Evans.

Rutgers came back to tie the score at 1-1, then Warrington gave the Hens the lead for good at 2-1 on a goal off an assist from Evans with 20:12 left in the opening half.

The Hens went into halftime up 3-1 when Warrington scored her second goal off an assist from Burke with no time left.

Warrington capped the scoring off a feed from Evans just 3:05 into the second half.

UD will return to action against St. Joseph’s University at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16. That will be the first of five consecutive road games that will see the Hens play at Lafayette, Temple, Hofstra and Virginia Commonwealth before returning home to face Northeastern on Sunday, Oct. 2.
