Howard scores twice in field hockey win 9:20 a.m., Aug. 31, 2005--The University of Delaware field hockey team swept its three-game West Coast tour by defeating host Stanford University 5-1 on Tuesday afternoon. UD freshman Casey Howard scored two goals to lead the Fightin Blue Hens, who now return home for the Blue Hen Classic tournament to be played Saturday and Sunday at Rullo Stadium. The Hens will open against Duke University in a game to be played at 11 a.m., Saturday, then will face the University of Richmond at 2:30 p.m., Sunday. In other tournament games, Ohio State University will face Richmond at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, and Ohio State will face Duke at 11 a.m., Sunday. Against Stanford, Howard opened the scoring off a pass from Nikki Hinsley early in the first half and then found the net again to give UD a 2-0 lead. The Hens extended the lead to 3-0 at the half when junior Kaili Kao scored the first goal of her collegiate career off an assist from Katie Evans. In the second half, the Hens got goals from Stephanie Swain, off an Evans assist, and senior co-captain Amber Deimler, off an assist by Amy Brewer. UD goalkeeper Megan Allen had one save.
