UD field hockey team wins two in California

9:42 a.m., Aug. 30, 2005--The University of Delaware field hockey team has won the first two games of its West Coast swing, defeating the University of the Pacific 3-2 on Saturday and the host University of California Berkeley 2-1 on Sunday.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens, who are the defending Colonial Athletic Association champions, will end their trip with a game at Stanford University this afternoon.

Against Cal, UD sophomore Molly Burke scored the game-winning goal in overtime off of a penalty corner. Also scoring for the Hens was junior Stephanie Swain, who found the net just 44 seconds into the game. UD goalkeeper Megan Allen had six saves.

Against Pacific, UD freshman Casey Howard scored two goals, including the game winner in overtime. Burke also scored for the Hens, and Amber Deimler, Amanda Warrington and Katie Evans had assists. Goalkeeper Allen had three saves.
