Iversen, Jacobs added to UD basketball staff

Ryan Iversen
1:34 p.m., July 22, 2005--Former University of Delaware men’s basketball player Ryan Iversen, one of the most popular Fightin’ Blue Hens in recent years for his hard-charging style of play, has been named a UD assistant coach.

Iversen will join the staff of UD Head Coach David Henderson for the 2005-06 season. Also joining the UD staff will be Darryl Jacobs, the former head coach at NCAA Division II Felician College in Lodi, N.J.

Jacobs and Iversen join assistant coach Kenny Blakeney, who is entering his fourth season at UD and will now become Henderson's top assistant.

Jacobs spent five years at Felician, compiling a 75-69 record and leading the Golden Falcons to the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament each season. He was named the CACC Coach of the Year in 2003-04, when Felician was the conference co-champion and won the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament.

Jacobs also has coached at Montclair State University and Lehman College in Bronx, N.Y.

Iversen was a three-year standout for the Hens from 2000-03 after transferring from the University of Minnesota. He averaged 9.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 88 career games. His 506 career rebounds rank 25th in UD history and are the most ever by a guard.

Iversen graduated from UD in May 2003, as an international business major with a concentration in international economics. He played professionally for the Knox Raiders in Australia in 2004 and was one of the league's leading scorers. Since October 2004, Iversen has worked as a sales executive for Colima Development Corp. in Minneapolis.
