Former Hen Ginn earns football staff promotion

Brian Ginn
8:49 a.m., March 8, 2005--Brian Ginn, a former quarterback for the University of Delaware, has been promoted to a full-time position on the football coaching staff, Fightin’ Blue Hens Head Coach K.C. Keeler announced Monday.

Ginn’s promotion follows the resignation of passing game coordinator and receivers coach Bryan Bossard, who accepted a position at the University of Maryland. Ginn had been a part-time coach, working with running backs.

"Brian is an outstanding young coach," Keeler said. "He has paid his dues. We are very excited to have the opportunity to promote him to a full-time role on our staff."

Ginn, 27, was instrumental in the development of former standout running backs Germaine Bennett and Antawn Jenkins, who helped lead UD to the 2003 NCAA Division I-AA national championship.

Ginn joined the coaching staff under former head coach Tubby Raymond in 2000 as a student assistant and was later named wide receivers and tight end coach. After Raymond retired and was replaced by Keeler, Ginn remained on the staff in a part-time role.

Ginn played behind All-East quarterback Leo Hamlett in 1996 then took over the starting spot as a sophomore and led the Hens to the 1997 NCAA Division I-AA championship tournament semifinals. The following year, he split time with All-American Matt Nagy before suffering a broken leg. As a senior, Ginn took over for the injured Nagy late in the season.
