UD mens basketball picked to finish eighth
Also during the event, it was announced that UD senior forward Harding Nana was named a first team All-CAA selection. Nana was a first team all-conference selection following the 2004-05 season, when he averaged 18.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Old Dominion University, led by 6-foot 9-inch All-America candidate and preseason CAA Player of the Year selection Alex Loughton, was the unanimous pick to win the conference, which has expanded this season to include Northeastern University and Georgia State University. The Monarchs were picked No. 21 in NCAA Division I by Lindys sports magazine in a college basketball preview earlier this year. Old Dominion was followed in the CAA top five by Virginia Commonwealth University, George Mason University, Hofstra University and the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Northeastern was selected No. 6, followed by Drexel University, the Fightin Blue Hens, James Madison University, Georgia State, Towson University and the College of William & Mary. Nana and Loughton were joined on the preseason All-CAA first team by guard Loren Stokes of Hofstra, guard Jose Juan Berea of Northeastern and forward Nick George of Virginia Commonwealth. The second team picks were guard John Goldsberry of UNCW, guard Lamar Butler of George Mason, forward Jai Lewis of George Mason, guard Antoine Agudio of Hofstra and guard Isaiah Hunter of Old Dominion. UD, led by Head Coach David Henderson, will play an exhibition game against Goldey-Beacom College at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center. They will open the regular season in the Hispanic College Fund Classic to be played Nov. 18-20 at North Carolina State University. The Hens will face The Citadel, Stetson University and North Carolina State. UD is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Blue Hen basketball this season.
