UD’s Allison Borchers is CAA Rookie of Year

UD’s Allison Borchers has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year
9:48 a.m., May 13, 2005--University of Delaware freshman second baseman Allison Borchers has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year in softball. In addition, both Borchers and senior Jenn Joseph were named second team All-CAA.

Borchers is the second UD softball player in history to earn a conference rookie of the year award. The first was Mandy Welch, who was named the America East Conference Rookie of the Year in 1999.

Borchers led the Fightin’ Blue Hens with a .329 batting average, 50 hits, 30 runs batted in, 64 total bases, 31 walks, a .421 slugging percentage and a .446 on base percentage. She started all 53 games and batted .366 with runners in scoring position.

Joseph, who missed the last portion of the season after suffering a broken arm in a game against Rutgers University, was among the team leaders with 30 hits, 15 runs scored, seven doubles, 19 runs batted in and 47 total bases. She also pitched and went 9-10 with a 2.60 earned run average and 92 strikeouts.

Joseph combined with Lindsay Jones to throw the 13th no-hitter in UD history in the 8-0 win over Rutgers. She finished her career ranked third in UD history with 95 appearances and 294 strikeouts, sixth with 457.1 innings pitched, tied for sixth with 34 wins, tied for seventh with nine shutouts and tied for 10th with a 2.37 earned run average.
