UD’s Hall, Shillinglaw honored by CAA

Jordan Hall
10:15 a.m., May 6, 2005--University of Delaware men’s lacrosse sophomore midfielder Jordan Hall has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and Fightin’ Blue Hens Head Coach Bob Shillinglaw has been named the conference Coach of the Year.

In all, eight UD players were named to the All-CAA first and second teams and the All-Rookie team, with selections made by a vote of the six conference coaches.

Sophomore attack Cam Howard and sophomore face-off specialist Alex Smith were named first team All-CAA, senior midfielder Joe Trentzsch, junior defender Taylor Bloor and senior goalkeeper Chris Collins were named second team All-CAA, and midfielders Vincent Giordano and John Carrozza were named to the All-Rookie team.

Hall became the eighth UD player to earn conference player of the year honors and the first since John Grant earned the award in the America East Conference in 1999. Shillinglaw earned conference coach of the year honors for the fifth time in his career and for the first time since the 1999 season, when he was also selected the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association National Coach of the Year.

Hall, a sophomore from Surrey, British Columbia, was the leading scorer for the CAA's top offense, with a team-high 43 points on 26 goals and 17 assists.

Bob Shillinglaw
Howard led the CAA with 27 assists and also scored 12 goals, and Smith led both the CAA and NCAA Division I with a face-off percentage of 72.3.

Trentzsch has 22 goals and 11 assists to go with 36 ground balls, and Bloor, a second-year starter, played an important part in the Hens’ defense. Collins, a three-year team captain, was among the CAA and national leaders with a 7.36 goals against average and a .584 save percentage.

Giordano and Carrozza played a key role in UD’s outstanding season as midfielders. Giordano played in all 15 games and ranked seventh on the team in scoring with 14 points on 13 goals and one assist. Carrozza played in 14 games with two starts and contributed three goals, five assists and nine groundballs.

UD will meet Towson University for the CAA championship at 8 p.m., Saturday, May 7, at Rullo Stadium.
