Scholar-athletes win CAA honors

9:54 a.m., March 21, 2005--A total of 62 University of Delaware scholar-athletes have earned Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner's Academic Awards for the fall semester.

The CAA honored scholar-athletes from each of the 10 member institutions who participated in field hockey, volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's cross country and women's cross country and who posted grade point averages of 3.2 or higher.

Three Fightin’ Blue Hens--senior field hockey player Leah Geib, sophomore soccer player Matt Haney and senior cross country runner Mary Martini--earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages for the fall semester.

Of the 62 UD students honored, 17 were on the women's cross country squad, 12 on the women's soccer team, 11 on the field hockey team, eight on the volleyball team, nine on the men's cross country team and seven on the men's soccer team. The honorees are

Women's cross country: Lindsay Barnes, Allison Behrle, Christine Dierickx, Stefanie Gordon, Brenda Greene, Kate Klim, Kristine Marsh, Mary Martini, Linsey Norris, Ashley Olsen, Colleen Reid, Lauren Shaub, Julianne Twomey, Danielle Ward, Leslie Wason, Meghan Weaver and Sari Weissbard;

Men's cross country: Matt Bryden, Charlie Dielmann, Kevin DuPrey, Dan Frey, Tyler Mayforth, Eugene McAuliffe and Kyle Schmid;

Field hockey: Megan Allen, Jessi Balmer, Carly Campana, Lauren Carr, Leah Geib, Kaili Kao, A.J. Karsten, Erica LaBar, Lindsey Piester, Dusti Vanderwende and Amanda Warrington;

Women's soccer: Allison Kendro, Jennifer Krepps, Melissa Kunisky, Shelby Lawrence, Kendall Lytwynec, Christina Martinik, Bonnie Mills, Megan Milstone, Lindsay Novotny, Emily Sammis, Lindsey Shover and Christine Wrightson;

Men's soccer: Hayes Glanden, Matt Haney, Kyle Haynes, Anthony Molinaro, Josh Sand, Alex Schmid and Richard Zeller; and

Volleyball: Sarah Engle, Kristine Gneiss, Erin Kardine, Allison Lutz, Megan McGrath, Valerie Murphy, Nicole Stuka and Colleen Walsh.
