Blue, White play to tie in spring scrimmage 1:54 p.m., May 2, 2005--University of Delaware senior quarterback Sonny Riccio completed 13 of 20 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown and was the game's leading rusher with 36 yards as the Fightin Blue Hens football team concluded spring drills with the annual Blue-White Game on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Delaware Stadium. The Blue team, made up of UD offensive players, and the White team, made up of defensive players, tied 50-50 based on a modified scoring system. The offense earned six points for a touchdown and two points for each first down and the defense earned four points for a change of possession and six points for forcing a turnover. "The theme all spring has been to compete," UD Head Coach K.C. Keeler said. "I was pleased with the way we competed today. This team has gotten so much better in terms of where we started back in early April and where we finished today. It's exciting to see that. A lot of young players made great strides this spring, which is important because if we hope to have any success at all this fall, we are going to need some big contributions from those young players." The Blue team, which gained 263 total yards and had 15 first downs, tied the score on the final two plays as redshirt freshman quarterback Jarryd Moyer threw a seven-yard scoring toss to Jon Heydt and then hit Armand Cauthen for a two-point conversion. Riccio started the scoring with a 44-yard touchdown pass to senior Joe Bleymaier on the first series of the day. The Blue later got a 38-yard field goal from sophomore kicker John Nauss. Junior quarterback Ryan Carty completed seven of 14 passes for 50 yards, and Moyer completed five of 11 passes for 36 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Sophomore running Omar Cuff carried nine times for 21 yards, and freshman Danny Jones gained 21 yards on a game-high 11 carries. Defensively for the White team, redshirt freshman Emanuel Beneby gathered in the only interception of the game while senior All-American defensive tackle Tom Parks and redshirt freshman Jim Casertano each recorded a quarterback sack. Senior linebacker John Mulhern and junior defensive back Zach Thomas each had a game-high eight tackles on the day. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
