UD’s Blue-White Game set April 30

10:30 a.m., April 29, 2005--The University of Delaware football team will hold its annual Blue-White Game, the capstone of spring practice, at noon, Saturday, April 30, at Delaware Stadium.

Should the game be canceled due to inclement weather, the scrimmage will be played at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, May 1.

Admission to the game is $5 for adults and $3 for children, with UD students admitted free with valid identification. Fightin’ Blue Hens football season ticket holders also will be admitted free upon presentation of free tickets distributed earlier this month.

Parking is free but will be limited due to the large number of activities taking place in and around the athletic complex, including Ag Day and a home show at the Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center.

Gates to Delaware Stadium will open at 10:30 a.m. Among the pre-game entertainment for children will be arts and crafts, a moon bounce, and the Blue Hen Experience, which will give children the chance to take on tackling dummies and to kick field goals. On-field promotions will include a halftime contest for UD students to win free books.

After the game, an autograph session will take place with select UD players under the south end zone stands.

Silent auction items will be on display throughout the day under the west grandstands. Among the items that will be up for bid will be tickets and travel to UD’s football game at Maine on Oct. 29; four tickets, a chance to be on the field for batting practice and a clubhouse tour with former Philadelphia Phillies manager and UD alumnus Dallas Green on June 7 as the Phillies host the Texas Rangers and former UD standout Kevin Mench; sideline passes to various UD football home games; a spot on the chain crew for a future UD football home game; tickets to the June 4 NASCAR Busch Series race at Dover Downs; golf and lunch with UD football coordinators Dave Cohen and Kirk Ciarrocca; lunch or dinner with UD head coach K.C. Keeler, and a one-night stay and breakfast at the Courtyard Newark—University of Delaware.

The Blue-White Game marks the end of spring practice as the Hens seek a third consecutive Atlantic 10 Football Conference championship and a third consecutive bid to the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. The Hens won the 2003 national championship and reached the 2004 quarterfinals before falling in a heartbreaker to the College of William and Mary.

UD returns quarterback Sonny Riccio, wide receiver David Boler, running back Omar Cuff, linebacker John Mulhern and All-American defensive tackle Tom Parks.

Among the top newcomers and younger players to watch this spring are redshirt freshmen wide receivers Armand Cauthen, Kervin Michaud and Aaron Love, offensive linemen Marco Kristen, Mike Byrne and Greg Benson, redshirt defensive linemen Jim Casertano and Stephen Purkey, linebackers Ralph Hines and Demetrice Alexander, and defensive backs Fred Andrew, Rafig Gunthorpe and Jahiri Gunthorpe
