Delaware baseball wins one of three at UNCW

9:50 a.m., April 18, 2005--With sophomore left-handed pitcher Billy Harris picking up his first career save, the University of Delaware baseball team defeated the host University of North Carolina Wilmington 7-6 on Sunday afternoon to dodge a Colonial Athletic Association sweep.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens lost 7-6 on Friday when UNC Wilmington’s Daniel Hargrave hit a grand slam, countering a three-run shot by the Hens’ Dan Richardson.

UD lost 16-6 on Sunday, despite three hits from Kelly Buber and a home run from Adam Tsakonas, before coming back to pick up a win on Sunday.

In the victory, UD got three hits each from Brian Valichka and Richardson, who again hit a home run. Pitcher Scott Rambo started the game with Harris coming on and pitching three and one-third scoreless innings.

The Hens are now 14-18 overall and 4-5 in the CAA. They will face Delaware State University at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, and St. Joseph’s University at 3 p.m., Thursday, April 21, with both games at Bob Hannah Stadium.
