Delaware baseball falls 4-3 to Delaware State

11:04 a.m., April 13, 2005--Delaware State University’s Kevin Hill scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Hornets a 4-3 victory over the University of Delaware in a game played Tuesday at Soldier Field in Dover.

With the loss, the Fightin’ Blue Hens fell to 13-16 as they prepare for a weekend Colonial Athletic Association series at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. The series will be a rematch of the 2004 conference championship, which was won by the Seahawks.

UNC Wilmington is 24-11 overall and 9-0 atop the CAA. The Seahawks have won 11 games in a row and 18 of their last 20.

In the loss to Delaware State, the Hens took a 2-0 lead in the first inning but the Hornets rallied to tie the game 2-2 and send it into extra innings.

UD took the lead in the top of the 10th on a sacrifice fly by Brian Valichka, but Delaware State rallied with two runs in the bottom of the inning to claim the win.

Ryan Graham and Adam Tsakonas had two hits each, with Graham smacking a double and scoring a run. Todd Davison had a hit and scored two runs.

Kevin Brown started for the Hens and worked three shutout innings. Chad Kerfoot took the loss and falls to 1-2 on the season.
