Delaware baseball tops New York Tech 15-1

1:21 p.m., April 12, 2005--Playing without two key players who were struck by a car and injured Friday night, the University of Delaware baseball team defeated the New York Institute of Technology 15-1 on Monday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens were without seniors Dave Harden and Brock Donovan, who, along with Donovan’s sister Erica, were struck while walking along Delaware Avenue in Newark. Harden suffered severe abdominal bruising and his injuries will end his playing career at UD. Donovan suffered a fracture in his left leg and hopes to return to the field by the Colonial Athletic Association tournament in mid-May.

Donovan had five hits in five at-bats in his last game before the accident and designated hitter Kelly Buber picked up where his injured teammate left off against New York Tech, going three-for-four with a home run, a double, four runs batted in and three runs scored. Adam Tsakonas and Brandon Menchaca also hit home runs for the Hens.

Senior pitcher Scott Rambo earned the win, raising his record to 3-3 on the season. Relief pitchers Jason Rogers and Dan Richardson combined for four scoreless innings.

The Hens will return to action with a game at Delaware State University in Dover at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 12. They will remain on the road for a three-game CAA series at the University of North Carolina Wilmington April 15-17, then will return home to host Delaware State at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 19.
