Towson defeats Hens in CAA baseball series

9:51 a.m., April 4, 2005--After defeating Towson University 6-3 on Friday to open a Colonial Athletic Association weekend series, the University of Delaware fell 12-2 and 20-19 on Sunday.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens are now 11-15 overall and 3-3 in the CAA. UD will return to action with a game at Temple University in Philadelphia at 3 p.m., Thursday, April 7.

In Friday’s victory, pitcher Mike McGuire earned the win, allowing eight hits and three earned runs in seven innings of work. Jason Rogers worked two scoreless innings in relief. The Hens had 11 hits, including three by right fielder Dan Richardson and two each by first baseman Adam Tsakonas, catcher Brian Valichka and left fielder Bryan Hagerich.

Brent Gaphardt took the loss in the first game Sunday, and Rogers took the loss in the second game, which was a slugfest. Towson had 21 hits and the Hens 20, with three each by Tsakonas, Valichka, shortstop Todd Davison and outfielder Brent Rogers. Both Davison and Richardson had four runs batted in.
