Hagerich’s home run lifts UD baseball team

9:58 a.m., March 17, 2005--A three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning by designated hitter Bryan Hagerich propelled the University of Delaware baseball team past the University of Maryland Baltimore County 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.

Billy Harris earned the win for the Fightin’ Blue Hens, throwing the first complete game of the season. He scattered seven hits, struck out eight batters and allowed no earned runs.

With the victory, the Hens improved to 7-7. UD will return to action against George Washington University at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, March 17, at Bob Hannah Stadium.

The Hens will remain at home for a weekend series against Penn State University, with a doubleheader beginning at noon, Saturday, March 19, and a single game at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 20.

After a home game against New York Tech on March 23, the Hens will open Colonial Athletic Association play with a three-game series against Hofstra University March 25-27 at Bob Hannah Stadium.

In Wednesday’s win, UD freshman Brandon Menchaca had three hits in four trips to the plate, getting a single, double and triple. Adam Tsakonas had a pair of singles, and Brock Donovan had a double and a run batted in.
