UD’s Collins, Trentzsch are lacrosse all-stars

Chris Collins
9:43 a.m., June 8, 2005--Two seniors on the University of Delaware men's lacrosse team, goalkeeper Chris Collins and midfielder Joe Trentzsch, have been selected to play in the 64th annual United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association North-South Senior All-Star Game on Saturday, June 11, at the State University of New York at Cortland.

Collins and Trentzsch will compete for the South team, which will be coached by Dom Starsia, head coach at the University of Virginia, and Brian Volker, head coach of the University of Pennsylvania.

Collins and Trentzsch led UD to one of its finest seasons as the Fightin’ Blue Hens went 11-6, won the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title and earned an at-large berth in the NCAA Division I championship tournament.

Joe Trentzsch
Collins became the first UD goalkeeper since Jim Pappas to earn USILA All-American honors when he was named honorable mention last week. A two-time second team All-CAA selection, he was a three-year starter in the nets for the Hens and was named the team's most valuable player in 2005. Collins started all 17 games in 2005, posting a 7.56 goals against average and a .584 save percentage. He set school records for minutes played in a season (1,009:18), goals against average in a season (7.56) and goals against average in career (8.64). He ranks fourth all-time at UD with 554 saves.

Trentzsch earned second team All-CAA laurels in 2005, when he appeared in 15 games and ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 36 points on 24 goals and 12 assists. He also scooped up 40 ground balls and led the CAA in shots with 114. He scored two or more goals seven times.
