Two Delaware teams are nationally ranked

2:14 p.m., Sept. 22, 2004--Two University of Delaware teams are entrenched in the national rankings, with the football team No. 4 in The Sports Network NCAA Division I-AA poll and the field hockey team No. 14 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association NCAA Division I poll.

The 2-1 Fightin’ Blue Hens football team leads seven Atlantic 10 Football Conference members in the top 25. Maine is No. 8, Villanova is No. 11, New Hampshire is No. 14, Massachusetts is No. 16, Northeastern is No. 18 and James Madison is No. 24.

UD will play at Massachusetts on Saturday, Sept. 25.

The 4-3 field hockey team is one of three Colonial Athletic Association teams in the top 20. Old Dominion is ranked No. 8 and Hofstra is No. 19.

The Hens led the new No. 1 team, Maryland, 3-1 on Sunday before the Terrapins rallied to take the game 4-3. Playing a difficult schedule, UD also has lost to No. 2 North Carolina and to No. 4 Michigan State.
