Delaware men’s tennis blanks Millersville 7-0

9:07 a.m., Feb. 21, 2005--The University of Delaware men's tennis team defeated host Millersville (Pa.) University 7-0 in a match played Saturday.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens won all six singles matches in straight sets. UD’s John Tully defeated Millersville's Greg Bennett 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1, Adam Liebman defeated Cliff Boyd 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2, Josh Ditman defeated Brandon Kessler 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3, Jesse Carl defeated Chris Matisse 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4, Robert Wirth defeated Scott Smith 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Jason Hanschman defeated Evan McConaghy 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6.

UD also won all three doubles matches as Tully and Wirth teamed for an 8-3 win over Bennett and Boyd at No. 1, Jesse Carl and Hanschman defeated Kessler and Matisse 8-3 at No. 2, and Sammy Carl and Philip Wayne defeated Smith and McConaghy 8-2 at No. 3.

Tully improved to 10-3 in singles play in 2004-05 and won his 51st career match. That moves him into a tie for second place all-time at UD with Ken Dill, who went 51-14 from 1978-82, and Ira Bernstein, who went 51-19 from 1995-99. Jon Zolin is Delaware's all-time singles win leader with a mark of 57-5 in 1971-75.

Hanschman improved to 8-2 on the season in singles and teamed with Jesse Carl to improve to 5-1 in doubles.
