UD men’s basketball falls 86-80 to Drexel

11:09 a.m., Feb. 28, 2005--Closing out a difficult regular season, the University of Delaware men’s basketball team fell 86-80 to Drexel University in a Colonial Athletic Association game played Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia.

With the loss, the Fightin’ Blue Hens fell to 10-19 overall and 7-11 in the CAA. The 19 losses are the most since 1980-81, when UD went 6-19.

UD finished seventh in the conference and so will be forced into a play-in game in the CAA tournament, which will be held March 4-7 at the Richmond (Va.) Coliseum. The Hens will face Towson University at 8 p.m., Friday, March 4.

The winner of that game will advance to face second-seeded Virginia Commonwealth University on Saturday evening, March 5. The tournament semifinal games will be played at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Sunday, March 6, with the championship game at 7 p.m., Monday, March 7.

In the loss to Drexel, junior guard Andrew Washington scored a career-high 32 points and had eight rebounds. Junior forward Harding Nana had 13 points and three blocked shots, senior forward Robin Wentt had eight points and senior point guard Mike Slattery had seven points and four assists.
