Malcom scores 24 points as Hens top LaSalle

UD’s Tiara Malcom
11:01 a.m., Dec. 20, 2004--Senior forward Tiara Malcom scored a season-high 24 points and hit the winning basket with just four seconds left to play as the University of Delaware women's basketball squad defeated LaSalle University 68-67 on Sunday afternoon at Tom Gola Arena in Philadelphia.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens won their third straight game and improved to 5-2 on the season, rallying from five points down in the final minutes as Amanda Blackstone and Alena Koshansky each converted clutch three-pointers and Malcom scored the game-winner in the lane.

In addition to her 24 points, Malcom had 10 rebounds. Tiffany Young had 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench, and Tyresa Smith added 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

LaSalle took a 30-26 lead at intermission and held narrow leads almost the entire second half before the Hens came back to win.

UD, which was playing for the first time since Dec. 9 because of final exams, will take another 10-day break before returning to action Dec. 29 at the Christmas City Classic at Lehigh University. The Hens will take on the University of Alabama in the opener at 5 p.m.
