UD women’s basketball defeats UNCW 56-40

6:48 p.m., Jan. 15, 2005--After a slow start, the University of Delaware women’s basketball team rolled past the University of North Carolina Wilmington 56-40 in a Colonial Athletic Association game played Friday night at the Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center.

With the victory, the Fightin’ Blue Hens extended their winning streak to nine games and improved to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

The Hens, who are alone atop the CAA standings, will remain at home for a game at 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 16, against George Mason University. The Patriots are 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference, and are coming off a 50-48 overtime win over James Madison University.

In Friday night’s victory before 1,056 fans, the Hens were led by senior forward Tiara Malcom, who had 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Senior forward Tiffany Young came off the bench to score 14 points and pull down nine rebounds, and freshman guard Melissa Czorniewy had nine points and four rebounds.
