Gregory named volleyball associate head coach

Cindy Gregory
10:38 a.m., Jan. 3, 2005--Cindy Gregory, assistant coach of the University of Delaware volleyball team for the last three seasons, has been promoted to associate head coach, according to Head Coach Bonnie Kenny.

"By elevating Cindy to associate head coach, the University of Delaware has shown a commitment to her efforts and our volleyball program," Kenny said. Kenny recently completed her third season as head coach at UD and her 21st season as a college head coach.

"Year in and year out, Cindy has opportunities to pursue other assistant and head coaching positions. She has been an integral part of our success here and we are fortunate to have a coach of her caliber. I am pleased the University recognizes this also."

A native of Houston, Texas, Gregory played collegiate volleyball at both the University of Houston and Southwest Missouri State University. She began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas, before accepting a position as head coach at Marymount University in Arlington, Va., in 1987.

She was head coach at Clark University in Worchester, Mass., and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining Kenny’s staff at the University of Massachusetts in 1995. Massachusetts discontinued its volleyball program and UD hired Kenny as head coach in February 2002. Gregory joined the Fightin’ Blue Hens staff as an assistant.

The coaches led UD to an extremely successful season in 2004, with the Hens finishing 23-9 and reaching the Colonial Athletic Association championship game, where they fell to Towson University.
