2:32 p.m., Dec. 10, 2004--The 2004 United Way of Delaware fund-raising campaign at UD has exceeded the target amount of $175,000 by nearly $2,000, Richie Holland, UD campaign chairperson and manager in Human Resources, said.

The campaign, “Impacting our community by focusing on what matters--changing lives,” which ended at UD Nov. 19, raised $176,977 from UD employees, including $43,000 from pacesetters and retirees. The ongoing statewide campaign has so far raised $17,547,247 toward a goal of $26.7 million in Delaware.

“Once again, thanks to the generosity of the University community, we are going to make a real difference in people's lives through United Way programs,” Holland said. “Many of our employees designated their pledges to the community impact fund, which allows United Way to use the contributions of UD employees to assist many agencies in need of support throughout the state.”

Winners of incentive prizes, which include a weekend getaway at the new Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware, will be picked in a drawing Friday, Dec. 10. The winners will be notified and invited to attend the United Way closing reception on Thursday, Jan. 13, Holland said.

United Way of Delaware supports programs that target the most serious issues facing communities. The annual campaign and the Community Impact Fund bring together thousands of volunteers, more than 1,000 employers and organizations, dozens of full- and affiliate-member agencies and tens of thousands of individual donors.

“The generosity of the UD community is a natural extension of the 'UDeserve Our Best' campaign and slogan, through which the Human Resources team aims to provide the best service for the campus community,” Holland said.
