Blue Hen track teams win Delaware Invitational

8:57 a.m., Jan. 24, 2005--The University of Delaware men's and women's indoor track and field teams swept the second Delaware Invitational meet held Saturday afternoon at the Delaware Field House, both winning team championships.

The UD men had six first-place finishes and 215 points. West Chester University finished second with 179 points, followed by Delaware State University (147), Lincoln University (104), Richard Stockton College (70) and Monmouth University (52).

The UD women had nine first-place finishes, two by sophomore sprinter Brittany Wright, and 232 points. Delaware State was second with 106 points, followed by Coppin State University (98), West Chester (97), Richard Stockton (94), Lincoln (80) and Monmouth (31).

Wright was the lone double winner for the Hens as she captured the 60-meter dash in a school record time of 7.81 and captured the 200-meter dash in 25.77. The previous record for the 60 meters was 7.88 set in 2003 by Daniella Price.

Also winning events for the UD women were Brendan Greene in the 5,000 meters (20:14.60), Casey Bennett in the pole vault (3.35 meters), Kate Klim in the 3,000 meters (10:52.45), Colleen O'Brien in the mile (5:22.36), Rachel Young in the shot put (12.11 meters), and Stephanie Cronk in the weight throw (12.14 meters). The 4 x 800 meter relay team also won (10:47.79).

Winning events for the UD men were Brad Dodson in the mile (4:25.74), Will Jurkowski in the 500 meters (1:06.96), Charlie Dielmann in the 1,000 meters (2:38.89), Rashaad Woodard in the 60 meters (7.01), Matt Arbaugh in the pole vault (3.80 meters), and Mike Yost in the weight throw (15.69 meters).

Yost also was second in the shot put (14.02 meters), Roger Brown was second in the 60 meters (7.09) and 200 meters (22.69) and Charlie Williams was second in the 400 meters (51.72) and third in the 200 meters (23.32).
