UD men’s basketball routs James Madison

9:24 a.m., Jan. 16, 2005--Pulling away early and then continuing to accelerate, the University of Delaware mens’ basketball team routed James Madison University 75-40 in a Colonial Athletic Association game played Saturday night at the Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center.

With the victory, the Fightin’ Blue Hens won their third straight game and improved to 7-9 overall and 4-1 in the conference. It has been a remarkable turnaround since an injury-plagued stretch that saw the Hens lose six straight games.

UD now prepares to face powerful Virginia Commonwealth University, which defeated Hofstra University 70-58 on Saturday in Richmond, in an important conference clash at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 19, at The Bob.

In the victory over James Madison, the Hens were led by junior guard Rulon Washington, who scored 20 points as a follow up to his game-winning three-point basket against George Mason University on Jan. 12.

UD junior forward Harding Nana had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and senior point guard Mike Slattery had 11 points and seven assists.

The Hens jumped out to a 7-0 lead and were ahead 40-18 at the half.
