UD goalkeeper Haynes is honored by NSCAA

10:01 a.m., Jan. 26, 2005--University of Delaware senior goalkeeper Kyle Haynes has been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Academic All-America regional team for the second straight year.

Haynes, a political science and history major with minors in philosophy and legal studies with a 3.75 grade point average, earned honorable mention on the NSCAA team. He is a two-time College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America nominee and was named to the Colonial Athletic Association academic honor roll three times during his career.

Haynes was one of 108 scholar-athletes honored based on outstanding accomplishment in the classroom as well as on the soccer field. The teams were selected from all three divisions of college soccer, with the East region representing schools from Maine to Florida.

A four-year starter for the Fightin’ Blue Hens, Haynes posted a goals against average of 1.92 and led all CAA keepers with 93 saves during the 2004 season. He had one shutout and a season-high 13 saves in a 2-1 win over the conference champion, Hofstra University.

For his career, Haynes appeared in 73 games and played a UD record 6,762 minutes. He compiled a goals against average of 1.65 and ranks third all-time for the Hens with 351 saves and fourth all-time with 13 shutouts.
