Cross country’s Meany most valuable athlete

P.J. Meany
8:56 a.m., Jan. 4, 2005--Sophomore P.J. Meany has been named the most valuable athlete on the University of Delaware men's cross country team, Head Coach Jim Fischer announced Monday.

Sophomores Tyler Mayforth and Jeremy Lambert were named the team’s most improved athletes, and freshman Kyle Schmid was named the most outstanding rookie.

In addition, Kevin DuPrey, Peter Kane, Lambert and Meany have been named co-captains for the 2005 season.

Meany was a dominant runner throughout the 2004 season and was the top UD finisher in six of the team's seven meets. He won championships at the Towson Invitational and the first Delaware Invitational during the first two weeks of the season. He finished 23rd at the Colonial Athletic Association championship meet.

Mayforth had the team's top finish at the CAA championship meet, crossing the line in 22nd place. He also finished sixth at the second Delaware Invitational.

Lambert finished 12th at the second Delaware Invitational, and Schmid had two top 10 finishes during his freshman campaign, placing seventh at the first Delaware Invitational and ninth at the Towson Invitational.

DuPrey, a three-year letter winner, finished 35th at the CAA championships, and Kane, a two-year letter winner, finished 28th at the CAA meet.
