UD women’s lacrosse team drops two CAA contests

Erin Edell scored three goals in Sunday’s loss to George Mason.
10:40 a.m., April 12, 2004--The University of Delaware women’s lacrosse team lost two home games to nationally ranked Colonial Athletic Association opponents this weekend, falling 13-7 to No. 8 James Madison University on Friday and 10-9 to No. 20 George Mason University on Sunday.

With the losses, the Fightin’ Blue Hens fell to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the CAA. The Hens will return to action at 3 p.m., Friday, April 16, against Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.

Sunday’s hard-fought loss featured four lead changes and four ties, and neither team led by more than two goals.

George Mason took a 7-6 lead into halftime and managed to hold on for the victory despite several UD rallies.

UD junior midfielder Erin Edell notched her second hat trick of the season, leading the Hens with three goals, and Shannon Kron scored two goals.

Also scoring for the Hens were Megan Hager, Diana Hall, Lindsey Greer and Becky Zane.

In Friday’s game, James Madison’s Gail Decker scored eight goals and had two assists to lead the Dukes past UD.

Edell and Becky Rausa had two goals each for the Hens. Also scoring were Hall, Hager and Michelle Campolettano.
