Delaware tennis teams fall in CAA tourney 4:48 p.m., April 23, 2004--The University of Delaware tennis teams were knocked out of the Colonial Athletic Association championship tournament quarterfinals in contests played Friday at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. The UD mens team lost 4-1 to host William and Mary, ranked 38th in the nation, and the womens team lost 4-0 to Old Dominion University. In the mens contest, William and Mary took the doubles point when UDs Jon Edwards and Philip Wayne fell 8-3 at No. 3 to Jeff Kader and Kal Patrick, and Josh Ditman and Ari Zweig fell 8-2 at No. 2 to Sean Kelleher and Colin OBrien. The Fightin Blue Hens tied the team score 1-1 with a No. 3 singles victory by Adam Liebman, who took the match when William and Marys Geoff Russell was forced to retire. However, William and Mary came back with victories by Steven Kane 6-2, 6-1 over Ditman. Alex Fish 6-2, 6-0 over Zweig and OBrien 6-4, 6-0 over Wayne. Old Dominion quickly took a lead in the womens match, winning the doubles point with shutout wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles contests. At No. 1, the UD team of Jamie de Graffenreid and Sari Shuster fell 8-0 to the team of Nataly Cahana, the 2004 CAA Co-Player of the Year, and Kerstin Endlich. At No. 3, UDs Beth Principe and Julia Shapiro fell 8-0 to Coralie Herrmann and Barbara Kerner. In singles, Cahana, ranked 31st in the nation, defeated Shuster 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, Maria Martiniez defeated UDs Stefanie Riddle, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 and Herrmann clinched the match for Old Dominion with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Principe.
