Men’s lacrosse season ends with 15-6 loss to Villanova

12:20 p.m., May 6, 2004--The 19th ranked University of Delaware men’s lacrosse team ended its season with a 15-6 loss to Villanova in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) semifinal game Wednesday night at Villanova Stadium.

The Blue Hens, who were seeded No. 3 in their first-ever CAA playoff series, finished the season with a 10-6 mark, their best since 2000.

The 14th ranked Wildcats, who jumped off to an early 5-0 first quarter lead, hiked their record to 12-2 and will play top seed and defending CAA champion Towson Saturday night.

CAA co-player of the week Matt Alrich led the Blue Hens with two goals and an assist to finish the season with 34 goals and 12 assists. Alrich also ended the season as the Hens’ leading scorer and became the first UD player since John Grant and Kev Lavey in 1998 and 1999, to score 30 or more goals in two consecutive seasons.

Delaware freshman Cam Howard, who added a goal and an assist, finished the season with 19 goals and a team-leading 20 assists. CAA rookie of the week Alex Smith contributed a goal and won 16 of 25 faceoffs.
