Hen goalkeeper Allen earns CAA recognition

10:08 a.m., Oct. 28, 2003--University of Delaware freshman goalkeeper Megan Allen has been named the Colonial Athletic Association's Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

In addition, Allen was named Rookie of the Week by the field hockey web site [www.womensfieldhockey.com].

Allen posted back-to-back shutouts last week as the Fightin’ Blue Hens won a pair of conference games to secure the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CAA field hockey tournament. Allen made eight saves in a 2-0 win against Hofstra University on Friday night and followed up with three saves in a 2-0 win over Drexel University on Sunday evening.

On the season, Allen is 12-6 with 1.83 goals against average and a .692 save percentage. She also has four shutouts (three solo) and a total of 72 saves.

This is the third time Allen has earned Rookie of the Week honors this season, and her selection marks the seventh time a Blue Hen has received CAA honors this season. Junior Jessi Balmer has twice been named Player of the Week, junior Erica LaBar has been named Player of the Week and freshman Katie Evans has been named Rookie of the Week.

The Blue Hens (12-6 overall and 4-2 in CAA) play their final game of the regular season against Towson University at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31, at Rullo Stadium. In a pre-game ceremony, the team will honor its six graduating seniors: Erin Shaklee of Severna Park, Md., Jillian Stevens of Wilmington, Megan Henry of Boyertown, Pa., Jessica Breault of Southbury, Conn., Gloria Compello of Newark and Heidi Hibschman of Lititz, Pa.
